Episode 55: Did You Ever Sit and Ponder as You Walk Along the Strand?
Here at The Marx Brothers Council Podcast, we don’t just talk about what the Marx Brothers did. Sometimes, we talk about what the Marx Brothers didn’t do. There are podcasts which have devoted hundreds of episodes to this subject, but we neatly dispense with it in one. Our boys did many things, but you’ll have to admit, they never made two-reelers at Columbia, or worked with Billy Wilder, or appeared in The Wizard of Oz. And it’s time someone finally has the guts to talk about it.
And at the end of this episode, a real treat for the closing music: A live performance of the song “Zeppo Speaks,” by the man who wrote it, Dan O’Farrell of the band Accrington Stanley. (Video of the performance is below.)
And for our Patreon subscribers, this month’s bonus segment should clear up some misconceptions (but it doesn’t)!
Official description: “What if Eddie Buzzell directed Horse Feathers? What if the Marxes did a film with Mae West? What if Harpo and Chico made shorts in the 1940’s?
“And what if Matthew and Noah did an an episode pondering these questions and more? Yep, your Marx Brothers daydreams are this month’s topic, as the guys give into baseless speculation sure to please everyone…or not.
“Later, they are joined by musician Dan O’Farrell, who performs his self-penned tune, ‘Zeppo Speaks.’”
Note for early birds: When a new episode is released, it might not appear at all of the locations below right away. If you visit your favorite podcast provider and the previous episode is still the most recent one you see there, be patient! And above all, don't worry.
