Episode 66: The Little We Know About Leonard (Our “Growing Up With Chico” Deep Dive)

One of the points made by Maxine Marx in her 1980 memoir Growing Up With Chico is that Chico Marx was underappreciated, both as a member of the Marx Brothers and as an artist in his own right. We don’t want to run the risk of underappreciating Chico! So, to build on what began with Episode 14: Look at Chicolini (a Chico appreciation episode, with special guest Trav S.D.) and Episode 19: Two of the Four of the Three Musketeers (a close look at the Groucho/Chico duologs), we proudly offer our third Chico-focused episode.

Official description: “A deep dive into Maxine Marx’s 1980 biography of her father, Growing Up With Chico.

“Matthew and Noah discuss the book’s honesty in taking on Chico’s self-centered lifestyle, while also portraying him in a sympathetic and loving manner. They point out discrepancies in anecdotes told by Maxine as compared to other sources, and are surprised by her willingness to express raw feelings about the rest of the family.

“Mostly though, the guys enjoy the details that help fill in the cracks of the story of the most interesting, yet elusive brother.”

Note for early birds:  When a new episode is released, it might not appear at all of the locations below right away. If you visit your favorite podcast provider and the previous episode is still the most recent one you see there, be patient! And above all, don't worry.
