Episode 76: Animal Crackers Reopened (featuring The Marx Brothers Council)
It’s our final episode of 2024, as well as the second of our new “revisited” episodes, in which we return to the canonical thirteen Marx Brothers films, play listener responses to them, and then respond to those responses. (For completists, our original Animal Crackers deep dive is here, and our recent return to The Cocoanuts is here.)
Animal Crackers happens to be the favorite Marx Brothers movie of all three of the fellows responsible for this podcast, and we note with pride that it inspired some deeply insightful comments from the larger Council. (And as Matthew noted in Episode 73, that’s you — you are the Marx Brothers Council. Isn’t that nice?)
Note for Patreon subscribers: The new bonus segment will be available next week on our Patreon page.

Coniam and Diamond recording MBCP 76
Official description: “Once again, our audience takes center stage as we respond to listener comments on the Marxes’ second (or third) film…
“How is viewing the restored version akin to seeing the team live onstage? What is ‘insouciant whimsy?’ Why is John Tefteller championing a bootleg? These are just a few of the questions we’ll ponder in another meeting of The Matthew Coniam Appreciation Council.
“We’ll also discuss why Chico arrives with an instrument he doesn’t play, and learn what famed comedian is not a fan of Lillian Roth.”
Note for early birds: When a new episode is released, it might not appear at all of the locations below right away. If you visit your favorite podcast provider and the previous episode is still the most recent one you see there, be patient! And above all, don't worry.
