Episode 79: Monkey Business Rekippered (featuring the Marx Brothers Council)

If you want laughter, gaiety, hot-cha-cha, you’re in luck, because it’s time for another special episode featuring voices from the proud Marx Brothers Council community. You thrilled to “The Cocoanuts Revisited.” You thrilled again to “Animal Crackers Reopened.” Well, get ready to thrill a third time to “Monkey Business — Rekippered!”

Once again, you have come through for us with a wide range of insightful, amusing, compelling, and in some cases downright appalling comments — in this case, about the Marx Brothers’ first Hollywood film. Everyone considers it a favorite, though some may favor it more or less than other favorites; everyone loves the beginning; nobody loves the ending. Something we all noticed, on our ten millionth viewing, is that Margaret Dumont is not in this movie.

Anyway, no more spoilers! Go watch Monkey Business ten million times and then listen to this episode!

“They were singing ‘Sweet Adeline.’”

Official description: “With listener insights, we take another look at the film that marked the Marxes’ Hollywood debut and stands out as the only one featuring a manicurist we can name.

“This episode highlights the distinctiveness of Monkey Business, as comments explore how it stands apart from both their earlier work and later films. We’ll dive into praise for Thelma Todd and even Zeppo, alongside the random nitpicks Marx fans are famous for.

Joe Adamson, Scott Alexander, and Eddie Deezen are among those contributing. Jay Hopkins would have as well, if he could figure out how to do it.”

Note for early birds:  When a new episode is released, it might not appear at all of the locations below right away. If you visit your favorite podcast provider and the previous episode is still the most recent one you see there, be patient! And above all, don't worry.
